Going global

Technology is here - but the hold it will have on us and on our education systems is yet to be determined. As technology-using teachers, we can help shape the direction if we stay knowledgeable and share ideas. The real changes will come as the children who grew up with computers become educators themselves. They will take things for granted about the use of technology, just as many of us take television for granted (though maybe not how to program a VCR).

Computers and the Internet are still new enough in education that the early adopters have a strong voice. It won't last long, so we need to be sure we stay informed and active.

Yes deborah, Internet and the use of computers in a classroom is very important with our students. The new thechonoly is here, and we must accept that in order that our students learn more efficiently, and of course, in Mexico they need to speak English fluency. Thanks, I usually will check your question to post my coments.

Manuel makes a good point that students find it helpful to learn with computers, so we need to use them. While I think that technology CAN make learning more efficient, I'm not convinced that just using technology WILL make learning better. I think of technology for language learning as being like having an exercise machine in your home - it CAN make you healthier, but you have to use it often enough and well enough for it to work.

Technology-using teachers are important as guides for our students and as models for other teachers. As we figure out things that really do work, we can share those ideas with our colleagues. This kind of widespread thinking about technology and communication can really make a difference in effective teaching.
